Traffic stop results in arrest of man with two drug warrants

On Behalf of | Jul 7, 2017 | Drug Charges |

When news of a drug arrest first becomes public in Wheeling, people might automatically assume that means someone was simply caught using an illegal drug or controlled substance. Yet that may not always be the case. There are, in reality, a wide array of drug charges, each dedicated to single topic related to drug use, whether it be the fabrication, transportation, selling or possessing them. The severity of the consequences one may face could depend on the type of drug offense he or she is charged with. In certain cases, one may be charged with multiple drug offenses, all related to a single encounter.

Such appears to be the case with a man who arrested on drug charges in Ohio. The man was found to be concealing bags of both marijuana and cocaine, while the woman he was traveling with was also arrested for being in possession of prescription drugs. Despite the man initially giving them false identification information, law enforcement officials discovered that he had had federal warrants out for his arrest issued here in West Virginia for drug trafficking charges. The couple’s arrest all stemmed from them being stopped by authorities for a simple traffic violation.

While it may be difficult for one to argue against the validity of a federal warrant for drug charges, others found to be in similar situations as this couple should not automatically be assigned intent to sell, distribute or even use drugs simply because they may be found in possession of them. Such a motive must be proven. One might find that arguing against such intent may be much easier if he or she has the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney to rely on.
